General presentation
The DTIVA/LDi relay is an intelligent electronic device (IED) for protection and control dedicated to distribution lines. This relay performs complex protection, control and monitoring functions. It belongs to the DTIVA product family of the PROTECTA range. In hardware and software terms, this range is made up of modular devices. Because of this architecture, the modules are assembled and configured according to the user’s needs; from then on, the software determines the functions (SFB).
DTIVA products are configured to protect, control and supervise the components of public and industrial electrical distribution networks, including radial, ring and meshed distribution networks. Thanks to their modular architecture, the modules are assembled and configured according to the user’s needs; from then on, the software determines the functions.
The main fields of application are radial networks that are not directly earthed. In these cases, the use of Petersen coils or earthing resistors results in relatively low currents in the event of single-phase earth faults. Most protection functions rely on current measurement alone, but the integration of distributed generation or the presence of loops in the network topology calls for additional voltage measurements as well as directional protection functions. Distance protection and line differential protection are also available to protect compensated or isolated networks.
The EuroCAP configuration tool, available free of charge, provides a user-friendly and flexible application for protection, control and measurement functions, ensuring that the protection devices are fully customisable.

Applications
The DTIVA/LDi relay provides combined distance and line differential protection for medium voltage networks.
Its range of functions covers all current- and voltage-based applications (directional overcurrent and earth fault protection, power calculation, overvoltage, undervoltage and frequency protection), including the distance protection and line differential protection functions.
All the control and monitoring functions required to control and monitor switchgear are integrated in the relay. The auto-reclosing function is supported by a synchrocheck.

Protection and control functions
The DTIVA/LDi protection measures the three phase currents, the residual current as well as the three phase voltages and the residual voltage. In addition to the current- and voltage-based functions, these measurements allow the directional extension of the configured phase and residual overcurrent functions, the directional overpower or underpower functions, as well as frequency-based protection functions.
This relay has two main protection functions: the distance protection function and the line differential protection function. The set of functions is completed by the auto-reclosing function with synchrocheck.
