General presentation
The DTRV/TR is an intelligent electronic device (IED) dedicated to automatic voltage regulation (tap changer controller); this relay performs the control and monitoring functions of the tap changer for two- or three-winding power transformers. This device belongs to the DTRV product family within the PROTECTA range. In both hardware and software terms, this range is based on a modular architecture. Thanks to this architecture, the modules are assembled and configured according to the user’s needs; from then on, the software determines the functions.
The DTRV relays are specially designed for the protection and control of power transformers. In addition, the DTRV range integrates a wealth of versatile protection functions to meet the most demanding user requirements. Thanks to the control, measurement and monitoring functions implemented, the IED can also be used as a bay control unit.
The EuroCAP configuration software, available free of charge, provides a user-friendly and flexible application for protection, control and measurement functions, allowing the use of fully customisable devices.

Applications
The DTRV/TR relay is designed to control the tap changer of power transformers. This relay belongs to the DTRV family within the PROTECTA range. It integrates a powerful automatic tap changer control function (manual control included), as well as overvoltage protection functions.

Protection and control functions
The DTRV/TR device measures the three phase currents, the residual current component and, in addition, the three phase voltages and the residual voltage component on both sides of the transformer. The tap changer control function also takes into account the voltage drop of the network components and the healthy state of the high voltage supply network. Voltage limitation functions are also included.
