General presentation
The DTIVA/C relay is an intelligent electronic device (IED) for protection and control dedicated to capacitor banks; it belongs to the DTIVA product family within the PROTECTA product range.
DTIVA products are configured to protect, control and supervise the components of public and industrial electrical distribution networks, including radial, ring and meshed distribution networks. Thanks to their modular architecture, the modules are assembled and configured according to the user’s needs; from then on, the software determines the functions (SFB).
The EuroCAP configuration tool, available free of charge, provides a user-friendly and flexible application for protection, control and measurement functions, ensuring that the devices are fully customisable.

Applications
The DTIVA/C relay has been designed to protect, control and supervise shunt capacitor banks.
This intelligent electronic device (IED) offers current-based protection functions, including time-delayed three-phase overcurrent protection and time-delayed residual overcurrent protection.
The DTIVA/C also offers circuit breaker failure protection.
In addition to the standard current-based protection functions, the DTIVA/C relay integrates protection functions specially designed for capacitor banks: capacitor overvoltage protection and capacitor unbalance protection. The device is able to handle and protect different bank configurations, such as ungrounded single star connection, (ungrounded) double star connection, delta-connected banks, “H” configuration, etc. The DTIVA/C also offers circuit breaker failure protection.
Voltage measurement is an option of the relay, which integrates phase and residual overvoltage protection functions.

Protection and control functions
The DTIVA/C configuration measures the three-phase currents, the residual current and, optionally, the three-phase voltages as well as the residual voltage. The current- and voltage-based protection functions, built-in or optional, are listed in the functional block diagram above.
